i was looking to build a ttl to rs232 converter and use a serial to usb adaptor for data logging but then i found http://www.active-robots.com/products/accessories/act-sib.shtml
as i only need it to record data i assume that it will be OK?
any use to anyone for a cat interface?

For anyone who feels like being brave
Attached is a design fro a USB to TTL converter (5V) which can either be powered from the USB bus or the target equipment.
To be honest you would most likely be cheaper to buy one of the DIP modules from FTDI but it might not be as much fun :bigg .
Anyone who wants to do something with the design let me know and I can either post the PCB plots or supply gerbers for PCB manufacture.
To be truthful, adding an additional logic gate and a couple of resistors and this will plug right into most data ports for CAT CI-V.....
Build at your own risk entirely (is there any other way ? )
Enjoy

i will try to take some detailed pics for you when i am on holiday (or you can borrow it for a few days :mrgr
