Hi ,Ive seen reveiws for radios and other accesories but not for mics.
Has anyone got a favorite and if so why.
Its just that there are so many on the market, codenser ceramic, ect.
whats the best desk mic? is it the most expensive one?
some have like power switches on them others go on a boom.
I have heard some that sound great whilst others sound boxy or tinny.

A good quality Morse Key would be cheaper and a lot more effective! However, if it is a Mic you are after then I would go with a Heil. Its like with many things unfortunately you get what you pay for. Always go for the best you can afford.

You dont say which radio you are going to use the mic with.Personally one of the best mikes I,ve used is the bog standard MH31 which comes with a few Yaesu rigs.
By the way it is free to register on this site

thanks gm4vgr and everyone who replied to the posts. Its a 857 yaesu radio
I need the mic for.Ill check out the mh31.But its really the desk mic Im interested in.On some forums (not amatuer radio) theres normally links to equipment tests and reports from members who use the equipment.I just thought there might be something like that on here.Might be worth getting something like that started just to inform the newcomers about stuff thats availible, altho I dont know if the site has enough members to do it.possibly something for the future.73s to you all.

Likewise this forum is free to join. Funny you should pick a post that is eight months old in which to reply. I'm pretty sure the guy has spent his money by now. As for the fourm you mention it is hardly active with only two posts at the time of writing this post?.

well, its horses for course's, when it comes to mics ! some of us (me that is) do not have a voice suitable for reading the news etc etc.
for myself, i have fiddled with all kinds of mics, to get the audio i require, and one mic will not fit all, in my case.
on my ft 847, i use the md 100 a8x, with high emphasis on. this seems to work well.
on my trusty ts 830s, i use a heil hm 10 dual, but only the "5" element. combined with the 830's legendary processor, this gives a penetrating, but clear audio.
on my alinco dx 70, its standard hand mic all the way.
just got back from dayton, and picked up an ft 857d. seems ok with standard hand mic, until i heard my friend using his, with the new "handi-mic hm 5 " from heil. trust me, if you have an ft 857d, after trying one of these mics, you will throw your mh 31 etc away. it really drives the rig, much more than the mh 31, and the audio quality really is night and day. i tried this mic too, and on air results between the two mics was again, night and day.
i hope my ramblings have been of some help/amusement!
regards, bob. ve3ptc/gm0ley.
